Akiveedu: A major fire mishap was averted though property worth Rs 2 lakh reduced to ashes here on Friday. The fire staff visited in the nick of time and controlled fire from spreading to neighbor areas.

According to fire officer Ali Baig, fire broke out when a housewife was cooking food in kitchen on LPG gas stove. The flames engulfed and caught entire kitchen and surrounding rooms.

The panic-stricken inmates of the house run for safety while neighbours phoned the fire department. The swift arrival of the fire staff avoided a major fire.

They took out a burning gas cylinder out of kitchen. Had it burst, it would have been damage to adjoining houses, the local people opined.

The fire staff used carbon dioxide to control the fire from cylinder. The fire staff assessed the damage to property at Rs 2 lakh.

The fire officer patted fire staff Sambamurthy, Satish Kumar and Koteswara Rao for their timely action and bravery to bring the burning cylinder outside the house.

Ali Baig said some precautions should be taken while cooking food in the kitchen. This would be necessary to avoid fire from breaking out and causing loss to property and life, he added.
