Mahila Rakshana Kendrams MRK are playing a big role in resolving women issues by conducting three to four levels of counselling

Vijayawada: Mahila Rakshana Kendrams (MRK) are playing a big role in resolving women issues by conducting three to four levels of counselling.

The officials of District Legal Service Authority (DLSA) are conducting the counselling.

About 650 women, including students and minor girls dialed 1091 to get assistance from the MRK officials since July.

The police department is functioning round-the-clock to protect women in the city.

At Women Police Station, all sections of women can come to these centres for getting all kinds of assistance on issues like dowry harassment, domestic violence and others.

One of the Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACP) said that MRK officials were sending the victims of domestic violence and harassments to the DLSA and experts who had been conducting a few rounds of counselling to them in a span of 30 days.

The police department would send the special teams to the location of the victim and action would be taken on accused after receiving the phone call from the dial 100 or 1091, he added.

He mentioned that most of the family dispute cases were being resolved through counselling to the victims and their family members by the DLSA officials.

Guidance was given by MRK officials through phone, when the women and students dial 1091 seeking guidance and help from MRK.

The ACP said that nearly 3,582 cases of eve-teasing were booked and counselling was given by the Mahila Mitra members so far in the city.

He recalled that the Mahila Mitra teams have been formed at as many as 85 colleges in the city so far.

The police department is conducting awareness programmes in the junior and engineering collages on various sections and acts on eve-teasing, said the ACP.
