Tirumala: As the annual Brahmotsavams of Sri Venkateswara Swamy is set to commence from September 13 onwards, Koil Alwar Tirumanjanam, the traditional temple cleansing was performed ahead of the festival, on Tuesday.

Speaking on the occasion, TTD Executive Officer Anil Kumar Singhal said, the temple cleaning ceremony will be conducted four times in a year before major religious celebrations including Anivara Asthanam, Ugadi, Vaikunta Ekadasi and annual Brahmotsavams in Tirumala temple.

A special mixture made of ingredients like Kichiligadda (a tuber), turmeric, vermilion and camphor is prepared and is smeared on at the base and walls of the sanctum, other small temples after cleaning", he added. The special substance act as repellent of insects and pests and also spread an aroma which help to give a soothing effect.

During the three-hour-long massive exercise, the temple staff along with officials took up the cleaning of entire sprawling temple complex followed purification ceremony after which the temple was thrown open for Darshan. Tirumala JEO KS Sreenivasa Raju, Addl CVSO Sivakumar Reddy, Temple Dy EO Harindranath and others were present.
