Vijayawada: A boy, who was injured in fire crackers explosion that took place on September 16 at Chandarlapadu village during the Ganesh immersion procession, succumbed to injuries on Thursday.

Vadlamanu Gopi, a 9-year-old boy, died while undergoing treatment at a private hospital here on Thursday. Five children sustained injuries three of them serious injuries when crackers went off during the procession.

The children were shifted to a private hospital at Gollapudi. Three days ago, a girl Srivalli died while undergoing treatment in the hospital. Now, one more child died. Minister for Water Resources Devineni Umamaheswara Rao and District Collector B Lakshmikantham visited the hospital after the mishap and expressed their condolences.

Earlier, the Collector had announced that the district administration would bear the expenses for the treatment. Unfortunately, the boy breathed his last. District Superintendent of Police Sarvasresth Tripati warned that storing of fire crackers and explosive material without licence is a crime and culprits would get punishment .
