U Kothapalli (East Godavari): The farmers bid to take up plantation in the lands acquired for Kakinada Special Economic Zone (KSEZ) at Ramanakkapeta, Ravivaripodu and Moolapeta was foiled by police on Sunday. More than 600 farmers were arrested at different places in the mandal and shifted them to different police stations.

Police in a bid to foil the attempt put the CPI, CPM and SEZ Vyetireka Porata Committee leaders under house arrest till Sunday morning and shifted them to different police stations in the district and released them on Sunday evening.

KSEZ Vyetireka Porata Committee leader P Subbi Reddy fainted while scuffling with police. Later, he gained conscious after providing first aid by fellow farmers.
