Vijayawada: To mark Mahatma Gandhi’s 150th birth anniversary, students of various schools and colleges participated in Sobha Yatra and reached Gandhi Stupa on the hilltop of Gandhi Hill.

MP and Gandhi Hill Foundation chairman Gokaraju Gangaraju was present on the occasion. A postal cover with Gandhi Stupa was released to mark the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.

Speaking on the occasion, Gokaraju Gangaraju said Gandhiji was more relevant these days than ever before.

He was a great teacher not just in ahimsa and truth but for necessary traits in the current era like personality development, leadership quality, communication skills, soft skills and life skills.

He mentioned that the IIMs have Gandhian management course in their curriculum and study him as a manager, said Gangaraju.

He further said that it was their bounden responsibility to pass on the great treasure of Gandhian principles to the next generations.

Andhra Pradesh Tourism department director Umamaheswara Rao, informed that the AP government had sanctioned Rs 5 crore for the development of Gandhi Hill earlier.

Cultural programmes were organised to celebrate the occasion besides quiz, essay-writing. The winners were given prizes.

Aqua Devil organisation president Ramchandra Rao, Nehru Yuva Kendra district coordinator T Srinivas Rao, Swadesi Jagarana Munch convener U Rama Raju, Swabhiman director S Srinivas, Gandhi hill secretary Durga Prasad, treasurer T Hanumantha Rao, students from various colleges and schools and others were present.

Meanwhile, Mahatma Gandhi’s 150th birth anniversary was celebrated on a grand note by BC leaders at Annapurna Kalyanamandapam here.

The chief guest of the programme was BC JAC president Buddha Nageswara Rao. He garlanded the portrait of Gandhiji on the occasion.
