Eluru: Cutting across party lines, all political parties except TDP organised a rally and rasta roko to express their solidarity to striking sanitation workers in Eluru on Thursday.

YSRCP, Jana Sena, Congress, BJP, CPI, CPM, CPI-ML, MCPI (U) and others took part in the protest to support the agitation of municipal sanitation workers on the eighth day.

The rally started at RR Pet Park and passed through Vijay Vihar Centre and Government Hospital and culminated into rasta roko at Fire Station Centre.

The protesters raised slogans against ‘anti-worker’ policies of the TDP government, abrogation of GO No 279, implementation of equal pay for equal work, Rs 18,000 minimum wages, government’s encouragement of ‘bonded labour’ by sanitation workers.

They formed a human chain blocking traffic from all directions.
Addressing a huge gathering, the speakers accused TDP government of not responding to the strike.

CPM city secretary Pallem Kishore, CPI district secretary Dega Prabhakar, JSP leader Sagar Babu, YSRCP corporator Karri Srinivasa Rao and others spoke.
