Visakhapatnam: The first and renowned gynaecologist of Visakhapatnam Dr C S Mangamma (92), has passed away here on Tuesday. Dr Mangamma served the society for over five decades by conducting thousands of safe deliveries and saved many lives with her care, concern and service motto. The Mangamma hospital opposite to KGH Out Patients gate is a well-known hospital for safe deliveries. She born in 1926.

Born in 1926, Dr Mangamma was the first lady to start a private hospital in the city and always encouraged and motivated the parents that a “female a child is as good as a male child”. She is a strong follower of Sri Sathya Saibaba. She took a mere Rs 5 as a nominal consultation fee from the pregnant women throughout her medical practice.

When there was a complete bandh in Government hospitals during the Andhra movement, Dr Mangamma was the only lady doctor who took initiative and conducted free Gynaecology related operations for the poor patients in the present Lepakshi building in those days.

Dr Mangamma conducted several free medical camps at Puttaparthi under the guidance of Sathya Saibaba. She was also presented with Late A Sankara rao's memorial award for her invaluable contribution to the community in the field of Obstetrics and Gynaecology. President, Sri Satya Sai Seva Organisations S G Chalam and V R Nageswara Rao and several others paid rich tributes to Dr Mangamma.
