Vijayawada: The city crime police arrested two inter-state criminals and recovered gold ornaments worth Rs 7 lakh from their possession. The two accused are experts in robbing gold articles and cash from the bus and auto rikshaw passengers.

Speaking to media here on Monday, Deputy Commissioner of Police B Rajakumari said two women Devara Suvarta,50, of Krishnabai colony of Guntur and Devara Santa Kumari of Narasarao Pet, Guntur district, were detained in Beasant Road under the Governorpet police station limits when they were moving in suspicious circumstances.

On questioning, they admitted that they involved in 19 robberies under the police station limits of Vijayawada and Vuyyur. Rajakumari said the police recovered gold articles weighing 274 grams and silver articles weighing 500 grams from their possession. The accused divert the attention of passengers and lift their bags and purses, she said.

Earlier, they were involved in many robberies in Nalgonda district of Telangana and Guntur district and came out on bail, she added. In another incident, the one town police arrested one Dwarakacharla Girija Kumari alias Girija near Sivalayam under the one town police station limits and recovered gold articles weighing 184 grams valued at Rs 6 lakh from her possession.

Girija Kumari belonged to Sivapuram village of Peddaraveedu mandal in Prakasam district. She robbed gold articles, money purses and hand bags from the passengers of auto rikshaws and buses in various police station limits in Vijayawada.
