Rajamahendravaram: Officials of health wing of Rajamahendravaram Municipal Corporation conducted raids on many wholesale and retail shops here on Tuesday and seized 20 kgs of plastic carry bags and glasses.

They collected a fine of Rs 6,000 from the shop owners. Acting on a tip off that some traders were using plastic carry bags, glasses and covers by violating ban on the usage of plastic for one month.

The raids were conducted on fish and chicken market in Jampeta and other shops in Ademmadibba, main road, Aryapuram and other areas.

The corporation Commissioner, Sumit Kumar appealed to the people as well as trading community to extend their cooperation for the effective implementation of ban on plastic in the city.
