Kakinada: East Godavari Collector Kartikeya Mishra supervised the movement of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) to Hyderabad and Bengaluru for modernisation.

The ten-day programme started on Friday as per the directives of Election Commission of India in the presence of representatives of political parties.

As per the details provided by the district administration, the EVMs of M-3 type manufactured during 2013-14 numbering 13,369 ballot units and 9,960 counting units were being shifted to BEL in Hyderabad and ECIL in Benguluru for modernisation.

The programme for shifting of these started on Friday with revenue staff taking part in it. These machines will be transported amid tight security in special containers brought for this purpose.

Speaking on this occasion at the EVMs godown adjacent to Collectorate , District Collector Kartikeya Mishra said that the services of the designated officials from revenue department were being utilised for the EVMs transportation duty.

Kakinada RDO, L Raghu Babu, urban Tahsildar Varahalayya , YSRC representative Ravuri Venkateswara Rao, BJP representative Ch Srinivas and revenue staff attended.
