Burglars loot temple jewellery worth Rs 5.5 lakh

Tanuku: Some unidentified persons broke into the Daneswari Amma temple at Duvva near here on Sunday night and decamped with the jewellery of the presiding deity Daneswari Amma.

Assistant commissioner of Endowment department Durga Prasad told newsmen that gold ornaments weighing 121 grams and silver ornaments and utensils weighing six kg were stolen from the temple premises.

The miscreants took the gold ornaments and silver utensils from idol in the sanctum sanctorum, he added.

In all, the stolen gold is worth Rs 3 lakh and the silver utensils are worth Rs 2.5 lakh, he said.

Police registered a case and investigation is on.
