Visakhapatnam: All the senior leaders of the Congress party have gathered at one stage here and exuded confidence that the Congress party will regain its past glory in the State. The city Congress committee organised the North Andhra party workers meeting here on Wednesday on the occasion of the birth anniversary of senior Congress leader and former Minister late Dronamraju Satyanarayana.
PCC general secretary and former government whip Dronamraju Srinivasa Rao presided over the meeting. APCC president N Raghuveera Reddy, party AP Affairs in-charge Oommen Chandy, former Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy, former ministers, MPs, MLAs and other senior leaders were present at the meeting.
Large number of party workers from the three North Coastal districts Srikakulam, Vizianagaram and Visakhapatnam attended the meeting. While addressing the party workers, the speakers said that the BJP government cheated the Andhra Pradesh government by not implementing the sanctions listed in Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act-2014. The speakers strongly demanded Special Status Category for Andhra Pradesh and railway zone with Visakhapatnam as headquarters.
Praising the leadership of AICC president Rahul Gandhi, the leaders told the party workers that they would soon see the golden era of the party across the country. After coming to the power at the Centre in 2019 general elections, the Congress government would sanction the Special Category Status to AP and also fulfill other promises made in the Reorganisation Act, they said.
Earlier, the party activists and leaders paid floral tributes to Dronamraju Satyanarayana's statue located at Siripuram Junction in the city. They recalled the services rendered Satyanarayana to the people of the State and the Congress party.
