Visakhapatnam: With the State and general elections were around the corner, the election fever grips the varsities and college campuses in the city targeting the young voters.
A large number of students are demanding that the government which comes to power in 2019 elections should provide full fee reimbursement for the youth pursuing various professional courses in colleges and provide enough employment opportunities.
The Left parties including the YSRCP are backing the students’ demands as the present TDP dispensation yet to take a decision on it.
The student associations affiliated to various parties are chalking out strategies and agendas to attract the young voters in the campus and exercise their franchise in favour of respective parties.
Speaking to The Hans India, District YSRCP Students’ Union president B Kanta Rao said that ‘mock parliament’ and interactive sessions were being organised by the YSRCP Students wing leaders at colleges highlighting the burning issues faced by the students in the State.
Not only student union leaders were campaigning in Andhra University campus here but other colleges and varsities too.
“Fee reimbursement scheme was implemented during YSR regime. But the incumbent government has totally failed to amend it as per the needs.
We are promising the students that full fee reimbursement would be implemented if the YSRCP is voted to power. We are urging the young students to vote in favour of Jaganmohan Reddy once and see the changes in the administration policies,” he added.
During the TDP regime, there were poor employment opportunities in the State and the government did not sanctioned full fee reimbursement for the students, he pointed out.
The party was highlighting these issues during its campaign in the institutions, Kantha Rao said.
Brushing aside the claims of YSRCP student leader, Telugu Nadu Student Federation (TNSF) University leader Dasari Seshu said that the TDP government under the leadership of Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu stood in top position in various sectors like education and in creation of employment opportunities in IT sector and government sector as well.
There is no problem in fee reimbursement and the government is allocating additionally 15 per cent of budget for education sector, he pointed out.
“TDP will field all winning horses and the party will return to power with thumping majority in the State in the ensuing elections, said Seshu.
