Tirupati: The Acharya NG Ranga Agricultural University (ANGRAU) sanctioned six new projects worth Rs 6.5 crore to the Regional Agricultural Research Station (RARS) here.

The ANGRAU will be providing funds for setting up seed and agri product sales centre, installation of seed cleaning machines, construction of research laboratory and administrative building, establishment of a modern farm mechanisation demo centre and a training centre for farmers.

The seed and agri product sales centre will assist farmers to purchase quality seeds. It is aimed at promoting new varieties of seeds. As part of the State government initiative towards farm mechanisation, the ANGRAU higher officials took a decision to promote the usage of machines in farming instead age-old traditional practices.

For this, a modern demonstration and farmers training centre was sanctioned to RARS. The centre to come up at cost of Rs 92 lakh. Due to lack of facilities, farmers are not giving much importance to cleaning of seeds.

To overcome the problem, a modern seed cleaning centre with required machines was sanctioned at a cost of Rs 20 lakh. The varsity sanctioned Rs 3 crore for construction of new RARS administrative building and labs in Tirupati campus.

As the space in the present building is not enough, ANGRAU Vice-Chancellor (V-C) Damodar Naidu took a decision to build a new administration building for RARS activities.
