The Polo-based compact sedan from Volkswagen has been spotted testing, ahead of its official reveal scheduled for the 2016 Auto Expo. When launched, this new sedan will rival the likes of the Maruti Swift Dzire, Honda Amaze, Tata Zest, Hyundai Xcent and the Figo Aspire.

The compact sedan is likely to borrow all the mechanicals, such as the 1.2-litre MPI and TSI petrol engines – with the latter mated to a seven-speed DSG transmission on the top-spec version – and the 1.5-diesel unit from its hatchback sibling

The carmaker earlier announced that its new compact sedan, specifically designed and developed for India, will make its world premiere at Auto Expo 2016 in February. Production is expected to commence at Volkswagen’s plant at Chakan, Pune in the first half of 2016.

According to sources at Volkswagen, the new Polo compact sedan will sit at the top of this segment and is likely to be priced slightly higher than the Dzire and the Amaze.
