Hyderabad’s love for Sachin and luxury cars is well-known. True to this love affair Hyderabadi boy, owner of Chocolate Boy group, Kalahar Reddy has bagged the first Limited Edition 5 Series M Sport in Telangana recently. Kalahar bought the car that has been signed by cricket legend, Sachin Tendulkar.
With limited edition, we mean just 10. The car might be from the lot that was manufactured at the Chennai plant of BMW, while the brand was partaking the Make In India campaign, where Sachin himself assembled a few cars. All, we can say at this point is that Kalahar is really blessed.
When it comes to specs, BMW has concentrated its efforts under the skin, removing the 520d EfficientDynamics model from the range in favour of a cleaner and more economical standard 520d.
It’s now claimed to be able to deliver 62.8mpg in SE spec, or 57.6mpg in the M Sport trim. Emissions dip as low as 119g/km in the SE-spec car. A six-speed manual gearbox is fitted as standard, while an eight-speed ZF automatic is an option.
The diesel engine coughs and splutters on rolling starts. The 181bhp 2.0-litre diesel could be a bit more refined at idle but, the noise soon vanishes as the revs rise. And with 380Nm of torque available from just 1,750Nm, there’s a surge of mid-range acceleration whenever you need it.
The M Sport 5 Series wears a proud badge on the rear and has the M Performance accessories knitted together like a cardigan your grandma stitched for you, with much love and affection. All, we can say now is that car paparazzis of Hyderabad will have a ball now to see this limited edition Bimmer rolling on the roads.
Hyderabad, BMW and Sachin Tendulkar are like divine things for the people of the city, best known to be together but, are impeccable even without each other. Only to testify, among the few Indians who were taken to Munich by BMW ahead of the launch of the zippy 1 Series, was another Hyderabadi boy. And at Munich, Sachin along with ace car racer Armaan Ebrahim were the driving instructors to the crowd.
