Set to go on display at the Geneva Motor Show, Kia Niro hybrid crossover is expected to go on sale later this year.Kia Niro is the company’s first exclusive hybrid model which is set to rival Toyota Prius new gen. Sharing its platform with the upcoming Hyundai Ioniq, Kia Niro receives a 1.6-liter petrol engine offering 105 PS and 147 Nm torque while the electric motor with a 1.56 kWh battery pack offers an output of 141 PS and 264 Nm torque.
The 1.56 kWh lithium-ion battery pack weighs a total of 33 kgs, is capable of 50% extra energy density and 13% higher energy efficiency as compared to those seen on board its competitors. No performance figures are revealed as on date but acceleration from 0 to 100 in 9 seconds and a top speed of 190 kmph is expected.
2017 Kia Niro is sporty in appeal and offers better aerodynamics due to its wide and low design. Showcased at the 2016 Chicago Auto Show, Kia has revealed various features of the new 2017 Niro which bears a strong similarity to Niro concept showcased at 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show. Set for launch, it will add to the company’s growing line-up of hybrid cars that includes Optima Hybrid and Soul EV.
Interiors are contemporary in style with glossy black and white accents while features include blind spot detection, rear cross traffic alert, lane change assist and smart cruise control.
No pricing details have been announced as on date while the Kia Niro could be making its way to dealerships in early 2017.
