Both hatchback and sedan versions are made at Fiat’s Tofas plant in Turkey. The duo will be sold in EMEA region. The Fiat Tipo hatchback has made its first public appearance at the ongoing 2016 Geneva Motor Show. While the sedan replaces the obsolete Linea in EMEA (Europe Middle East Africa) region, the hatchback version is set to replace the Bravo.
Manufactured at Fiat’s Tofas plant in Turkey, the Tipo trio (sedan, hatchback and estate) are important volume spinners in the cost sensitive segments. The cars adopt a fresh design language which is characterized by a low-slung front fascia, interesting grille, sleek headlamps, an elegant roof line and sporty rear fascia. The trio have identical interiors. The all-black dashboard features familiar Fiat elements, low-mounted centre AC vents and a touchscreen infotainment system with navigation and reverse parking camera.
Based on the new platform, the Tipo twins are lighter and more rigid than their respective predecessors. The powertrain lineup comprises a set of two petrol and two diesel engines. The base 1.4-litre petrol motor produces 95 PS while the 1.6-litre petrol unit makes 110 PS. The 1.3- and 1.6-litre diesel engines produce 95 PS and 120 PS respectively. Both manual and automatic transmissions are available depending on the engine.
The Fiat Tipo sedan has already garnered over 1,000 bookings in Italy. The hatchback is also expected to have a strong response in the target markets. India is likely to receive the sedan eventually.
