The price points of higher variants of the Brezza are not too far from those of the lower variants of the Duster and Creta. The Maruti Vitara Brezza has landed with an objective of taking the market by storm and that means, not only its direct rivals – Ford EcoSport and Mahindra TUV300 – but several other products in the vicinity would face the heat too. Here is a brief tech spec comparo between the new comer and the entry level diesel variants of the Renault Duster facelift and Hyundai Creta.
Dimensions
As an urban crossover, the Vitara Brezza has got the optimum footprint but that doesn’t mean that the bigger Duster and Creta are cumbersome in traffic. Talking numbers, the Maruti measures 3,995 mm in length, 1,790 mm in width, 1,640 mm in height and has a wheelbase of 2,500 mm.
In comparison, the LxWxH figures of the Duster and Creta stand at 4,315 x 1,822 x 1,695 and 4,270 x 1,780 x 1,630 (all dimensions are in mm) respectively. So as you can imagine, the Renault and Hyundai have stronger road presence and more interior space than the Brezza.
Engine and Gearbox
At 1.3-litre, the Brezza has the smallest diesel engine of the lot. The base diesel Creta and Duster are equipped with 1.4-litre and 1.5-litre units respectively. The South Korean crossover is the only model in this comparo to sport a 6-speed manual transmission. The other two make do with a 5-speed manual unit.
When it comes to power, the Maruti and Hyundai 1.4L are tied up in first spot with 90 PS on tap. The base Duster diesel is not far behind with an output of 85 PS. The Creta 1.4L leads the torque chart with an output of 220 Nm while the other two generate an identical 200 Nm.
While the trio seem to be matched evenly on paper, real world performance would see significant differences since the Vitara Brezza is much lighter than the other two.
Mileage
This is where Maruti’s compact and lightweight nature bears a clear advantage over its rivals. Maruti’s first homegrown car delivers an impressive ARAI certified mileage of 24.3 kmpl. The Hyundai Creta 1.4L is good for 21.38 kmpl while the 85 PS Renault Duster manages to return 19.87 kmpl.
Features
Here is a brief overview of the equipment list of these three crossovers. The Vitara Brezza fully utilizes its huge excise duty advantage by offering a lot of features at a lower price point.
Maruti Vitara Brezza: Dual airbags, ABS with EBD, projector headlamps, LED daytime running lights, foglights, alloy wheels, touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay, reverse parking camera with perimeter alarm, automatic climate control, automatic wiper, cooled glove box, cruise control and so on.
Hyundai Creta 1.4L (S+): Dual airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking camera with parking sensor, projector headlamps, foglights, alloy wheels, rear AC vent, touchscreen infotainment system with 1 GB internal memory, and so on.
Renault Duster 85 (RXZ): Dual airbags, ABS with EBD, fog lights, alloy wheels, automatic climate control system, touchscreen infotainment system, reverse parking camera, cruise control, and so on.

The Hyundai Creta 1.4L is clearly the most expensive crossover of this lot with prices ranging between INR 10.05 lakhs to 12.09 lakhs. All prices are ex-showroom, New Delhi.
