New Royal Enfield dealerships will be set up across New Zealand by the official importer in the coming months. The Royal Enfield Himalayan may be purpose-built to traverse the mighty Himalayas but that doesn’t mean that the adventure tourer has its eyes set of export markets. Royal Enfield has recently appointed an official importer and distributor for New Zealand and according to Stuff.co.nz, the Himalayan would be launched in the country in middle of the year.

We think ‘middle of the year’ would be a tough target for the company as its priority lies in catering to the domestic demand. The retro classic two wheeler brand’s New Zealand operations would be handled by Melbourne-based Urban Moto Imports.

Talking to Stuff New Zealand, UMI’s regional sales manager Dale Schmidtchen, said that the operations are expected to commence in two months’ time. The company is in the process of setting up dealerships across the country. UMI also imports and retails motorcycles from Benelli and MV Agusta.

The Royal Enfield Himalayan is underpinned by a new chassis which is designed by Harris Performance of the UK. Equipped with long travel suspension system, spoke wheels and on-off tyres, the Himalayan assures all-weather all-terrain capability.

Power comes from a new 410 cc air-cooled single-cylinder engine which produces 25 PS power at 6,500 rpm and a peak torque of 32 Nm at 4,000-4,500 rpm.
