Will Tata Tiago beat Maruti Vitara Brezza in bookings?

Over 1 lakh enquiries have been received since the car was launched about two weeks ago.Launched earlier this month, Tata Tiago is the newest car from Tata Motors. Built on a heavily modified XO platform, on which the Bolt is also based, Tata Tiago price starts from INR 3.2 lakh.

Available in a choice of petrol and diesel engine options, Tata Tiago is the second most affordable passenger car on offer in the company line-up, most affordable being Tata Nano. The price of Tiago petrol ranges from INR 3.2 lakh to INR 4.75 lakh while that of diesel Tiago ranges from INR 3.94 lakh to INR 5.54 lakh.

The petrol engine is in the form of a 1.2 liter three cylinder Revotron mill which generates 85 PS and 114 Nm torque. Tiago diesel gets a 1.05 liter 3 cylinder Revotorq mill, which generates 70 PS and 140 Nm. Both engines are mated to a 5-speed gearbox. Fuel efficiency figure of petrol variant stands at 23.84 kmpl while that of diesel variant stands at 27.28 kmpl, making it one of the most fuel efficient cars in India.

Key highlights include, GenY styling to appease young generation of buyers, attractive colour options, quality interiors, dual tone dashboard, steering mounted controls, Harman infotainment system with 8 speakers, turn by turn navigation, electric ORVM, comfortable space for five adults, best in class boot space, day and night IRVM, height adjustable driver seat, etc.

For the package Tata is offering with Tiago, this is a very aggressive price tag. One can arguably say that Tata is offering a Maruti Swift at the price of Maruti Alto K10. This is one of the biggest reasons behind the initial success of Tata Tiago. The company is yet to release official booking figures, but they did confirm that over 1 lakh enquiries have been received in the last two weeks.
