Without the standard electronic speed limiter, the Chiron is estimated to have a top speed of 288 mph.As expected, the mighty Bugatti Chiron will attempt to break its predecessor’s top speed record of 268 mph (431.3 kmph). The record attempt has been confirmed by the brand’s CEO Wolfgang Durheimer.

He says that the Chiron will be faster than the Veron 16.4 Super Sport which currently holds the title of world’s fastest production car but nobody at Bugatti knows exactly how fast the new hypercar will be.

Mr. Durheimer says that the company has made top speed calculations based on simulations but admits that sitting in the car and actually doing it is much different. Speaking of doing it, the Chiron’s top-speed run will take place at Volkswagen’s Ehra-Lessien test facility (the same venue where the Veyron set its record).

The Bugatti Chiron’s styling is a futuristic interpretation of the Veyron. The engineers started with the Veyron have worked on to improve each and every aspect of the car to arrive at the Chiron. The latest Bugatti is powered by the same 8.0-litre quad-turbo W16 petrol engine as the Veyron but it is tuned to produce much higher outputs at 1,500 PS and 1,600 Nm of torque. The Chiron’s top-speed is electronically limited to 261 mph but for the record attempt, the French marque will remove the limiter (like it did with the Veyron). The Bugatti Chiron’s unrestricted top speed is estimated to be around 288 mph (463.4 kmph).
