The Yamaha MT-03 street bike wasn’t showcased at this year’s Auto Expo although its beefier counterpart the MT-09 was launched. It is reported that the Yamaha MT-03 will be launched in India during the festive season (by November 2016). The price is expected to be around Rs. 2.75 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi).

The Yamaha MT-03 is the naked street-fighter version of the YZF-R3 that was launched last year. Although, it is built on the R3’s design language, the MT-03 provides a much upright and comfortable riding position along with wider handlebars. The motorcycle enchants us with the edgy lines, sharp styling and an exposed frame, that lets it stay true to its street bike signature.

The Yamaha MT-03 will be powered by the same power unit that is used on the Yamaha YZF-R3. It is a 321cc liquid-cooled 4-stroke DOHC inline twin-cylinder engine that produces 42 PS of power at 10,750 RPM and 29.6 Nm of torque at 9000 RPM, paired to a 6-speed manual gearbox.

Front and rear disc brakes will be standard on the MT-03 while the ABS option has been slammed for the Indian market to save on costs. A 140/70 rear tyre and 110/70 front tyre, touted to be sourced from MRF, will be used on the street bike.

The Yamaha MT-03 will be assembled in India through the CKD units set up, and will be sourced from Indonesia. It will be the second product of the MT series from the Japanese manufacturer in India. The MT-03 will be pitted directly against the likes of the Benelli TNT 300, Kawasaki Z250, KTM Duke 390 and BMW G310R.
