Arvind Krishna and Dimple Chopade-starrer ‘Biskett’ will be the first film to hit the screens this New Year. This was announced by the director Anil Gopi Reddy, known for directing ‘Vykuntapali’ besides providing music for six films, with Maruthi’s ‘Bus Stop’ being the distinguished one. “We wanted to release the film this week but since the New Year is around the corner, we’ve decided to hold the release for January 1, 2014,” he says.
The music director-turned-composer is happy that ‘Biskett’ has done good business. “For a small film it is difficult to attract good commerce but our film managed to do it so. The buzz is good and we’ve got 150 screens as of now,” he points out.
Speaking about why the film is called ‘Biskett’, he shares, “We are no way associated with the eatables. Biskett is used as a satirical term these days - Vaadu peddha biskett icchadu. What Biskett, our protagonist (Arvind Krishna), throws to get his job done and how he falls for one such biskett is the story. It takes a crime comedy form as it progresses but is laced with a love story. Arvind plays a real estate agent and is at loggerheads with his boss played by Ajay.”
About the film getting a ‘U/A’ certificate, he says, “We were keen from the word go that our film will be devoid of any double-meaning innuendoes and we’ve crafted the film on the same lines. However, since the film had a romantic number, the censor board officials granted as ‘U/A’.”
Talking about other characters, he says, “‘Vennela’ Kishore plays a role which will extend till the end while Thagobothu Ramesh surfaces as the film nears the climax. His role closes the film. Dimple Chopade is a PR in a pub and is a big miser. She hits off Aravind on a wrong note, but the conflicts result in love.”
He assures that the climax has shades of Jandhyala and EVV Satyanarayana’s films. “One will see a tinge of their finishes. The climax shot which extends for three minutes forty five seconds was shot in a single take. 18 actors participated in it,” he says while adding that the total duration of the movie is just 120 minutes.
He is also happy that renowned music label Saregama has bagged the audio rights of the film. “Everybody is aware that audio sales have dipped by a considerable margin of late but Saregama authorities paid us Rs 3 lakhs for the audio rights. They are also joyful for the fact that the music has attracted ringtones.”
