Suchitra Sen passes away. Famous Bengali actress Suchitra Sen, more aptly known as mother of famous heroine Munmun Sen breathed her last on Friday in Kolkata.

Kolkata: Famous Bengali actress Suchitra Sen, more aptly known as mother of famous heroine Munmun Sen breathed her last on Friday in Kolkata. She has been chronically suffering from a lung disease. Suchitra has been kept in ICU from December 23, 2013 at Belle View Hospital in Kolkata.

Her condition had become critical since January 3 and has been given treatment on a ventilator. Her daughter and grand children served her for these many days.

Suchitra Sen began her career with Sesh Kotai in the year 1952 and won the acclaimed Dadasaheb Phalke award in the year 2005. She acted in many classic Bengali movies. She even played the lead role in a Hindi movie Aandhi, which is based on the life story of late Prime Minister of India, Indira Gandhi. She has been the first Bengali actress to be recognized internationally.

She won the best actress award for her role in Saptapadi in the famous Mascow Film Festival. The Bengal government honored her with Vanga Vibhushan award.
