For the last few months, the buzz surrounding Rajinikanth's next film after "Kochadaiiyaan" has been doing the rounds.

Recently, speculations have been rife that the superstar will team up with KS Ravikumar for a new film. The film is said to be a commercial mass entertainer and is likely to be produced by Rockline Productions. The story for the Rajini starrer has been reportedly written by Ponram of "Charulatha" fame.
The buzz is that the film might be a sequel to "Padayappa" (1999), which turned out to be one of the biggest hits in Rajinikanth's career. If indeed a sequel to "Padayappa" is being made, it is sure to build the curiosity among fans.
According to sources, Anushka Shetty is likely to play the female lead opposite the superstar, reported Cinemalead.
However, an official confirmation regarding the film and its cast and crew is still awaited.
As of now, Rajinikanth is focusing on his upcoming release "Kochadaiiyaan", which would mark his younger daughter's directorial debut. The film's team is gearing up for the audio and trailer release on 9 March at Sathyam Cinemas, Chennai. The event will be a grand affair with the presence of some of the bigwigs from the Indian film industty. Rajinikanth, Amitabh Bachchan and Deepika Padukone will reportedly attend the launch though the finalised guest list is yet to be revealed.
The magnum opus was initially set to hit the screens in April 2014 but the film's director revealed that the release date has not been fixed yet. It is not clear as to when the film will make it to the screens.
The superstar is expected to commence the work on Ravikumar's film after "Kochadaiiyaan" releases. However, there is also buzz that the superstar would work with director Shankar after completing Ravikumar's project. But clarity on the actor's upcoming projects is expected after "Kochadaiiyaan" release announcements are made.
