In a controversy that could be a black mark on the ruling Siddharamaiah government in Karnataka, Sandalwood actor-turned-politician Ambareesh's medical expenses went up to a whopping crore and the hard earned money of the tax payers was used to foot the bills!

It's a known fact that Ambareesh who was unwell a couple of months ago went to Singapore's Mount Elizabeth's Medical Centre for treatment at the suggestion of Superstar Rajinikanth who raved about the medical expertise there.

According to a latest report doing the rounds, Ambareesh, who's the minister of Housing for Karnataka state claimed medical expenses worth Rs 1.16 crores. As per rules, a minister is entitled to a reimbursement of up to Rs 5 lakhs. Does this mean Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah bent rules to to pay Ambareesh's medical bill?

According to the notification, the medical bills of Rs 1.16 cr includes treatment cost in Singapore, air ambulance expenses, travel cost of his wife Sumalatha and three doctors — Dr MA Shekar (HoD, Department of Medicine, Mysore Medical College), Dr KS Satish (Vikram Hospital) and Dr N Raghunand (Vikram Hospital).
