Prominent Tollywood personalities Nagineedu, Indraganti Mohan Krishna, Avasarala Srinivas, Naga Susheela and Isha and doctors of LV Prasad Eye Institute (LVPEI) participated in the ‘Glaucoma Awareness Walk’ organised at Jubilee Hills on Sunday.

The walk was part of the Glaucoma Awareness Week, being held from March 8 to14, which aims to build awareness on the eye disease that affects both adults and children.Speaking on the occasion, Dr Sirisha Senthil said, “Glaucoma can lead to irreversible blindness. Therefore the first step is to create awareness about it, which can ensure early diagnosis and prevention.”

The doctors concurred that everyone has to undergo regular eye checkups and insisted on eye pressure being checked regularly. Naga Susheela, daughter of late Akkineni Nageshwar Rao, said, “My father had glaucoma and he took special care by undergoing regular checkups and treatment. That is how we were aware of it and took extra precaution. Glaucoma is a silent disease and by the time one realises that they are affected, it’s too late. People with hypertension, diabetes and glaucoma in the family should be extra careful.”
