Director Jaypraad Desai’s Nagrik, a socio-political drama featuring veteran Marathi actors Dr Shriram Lagoo, Sachin Khedekar and Dilip Prabhavalkar, won big at the 52nd Maharashtra State Awards with five awards including Best Social Film: Sacchi Entertainment, Best Social Film – Director: Jaypraad Desai, Best Dialogue: Mahesh Keluskar, Best Lyrics: Sambhaji Bhagat and Best Cinematography: Devendra Golatkar. The movie is produced by Arti Sachin Chavan.

Jaypraad is overwhelmed that his film Nagrik has bagged five awards and said that the honour has exceeded the team’s expectations. Says producer Sachin Chavan, “I am very happy that the film has won in five categories and looking forward to its wide release onJune 12. I am glad that after the Mumbai Film Festival (MAMI) the film has been gathering an amazing response from everyone."

Director Jaypraad is also delighted by the response to his debut venture. "Collaborating with actors and technicians like Dr. Shriram Lagoo, Sachin Khedekar, Dilip Prabhavalkar, Resul Pookutty and Bhanu Atthaiya was immensely pleasurable and rewarding", he says.

“In the recent past, we have witnessed that socio-political morality has stooped to the lowest. It is not just exploitation by the political or administrative class but an overall regression of moral standards. The common man has locked his mind inside an iron casket and chosen to live his life unperturbed,” adds Jaypraad saying, “Such a situation only fosters an environment of political exploitation, disparity and crime. As an artist you are always reacting to the socio-political reality around you. Nagrik is a curt reaction to this reality.”
