SureshVeteran actor Suresh, who was last seen in superstar Balakrishna-starrer ‘Lion’, says he is not coming across interesting supporting characters of late. “Gone are the days where characters artistes lend their bit to the film.

These days such artistes are mere caricatures and I don’t believe in signing a film for the heck of it; I always believed in bringing something to the table,” says Suresh, who did 286 films till now cutting across all the South languages.

He is presently shooting for Sri Raghava’s Tamil drama ‘Kaan’ starring Simbu in the lead. While the actor insists that the film will be dubbed into Telugu later, he is tight-lipped about his role. “Well, Raghava doesn’t want us to reveal anything as of now.

I can only say that I’m playing an interesting role in the film. Raghava wants me to be absolutely natural,” he smiles. Films aside, his cooking show Kitchen Superstar on a prominent Tamil channel is keeping him busy. “Cooking is my passion.

I’ve been cooking for the past 15 years. I dabble in different cuisines. I’m one of three chefs on the show and it’s been going on successfully for the past four years,” says the Hyderabad-based actor.

Suresh, who did close to 100 Tamil films before foraying into Telugu cinema, says the transition from being a hero to a character artiste has been smooth. “My father MS Gopinath was a producer and he produced films with NTR garu and ANR garu.

When I started off I wanted to be recognised more of as a performer. I did supporting roles, followed by playing lead roles and I’m now playing supporting roles again. Since I dabbled with drama, comedy and action at the beginning of my career, it has been a smooth transition to character (artiste) roles,” says Suresh, who will be celebrating his birthday today.
