India\'s first LGBT NGO, The Humsafar Trust presented Mumbai’s first LGBT themed dance drama “Hyacinth”, directed by celebrity dance maestro Sandip Soparrkar. As per Greek mythology Hyacinth was a beautiful youth and lover of the god Apollo. Hyacinth was also admired by West Wind, Zephyrus. They both propose to this beautiful youth and clamor for his love and attention by trying to impress him. What follows is an amazing story of Love, Jealousy and Repentance to bring out the universality of Love.

As per Greek mythology Hyacinth was a beautiful youth and lover of the god Apollo. Hyacinth was also admired by West Wind, Zephyrus. They both propose to this beautiful youth and clamor for his love and attention by trying to impress him. What follows is an amazing story of Love, Jealousy and Repentance to bring out the universality of Love.
The story was narrated by the Sutradhar, Love, played by the evergreen and beautiful Jesse Randhawa. The character of Zephyrus is played by Yuvraj Parashar, Apollo by Mithun Purandare and Hyacinth by Raj Kumar Singh. The high voltage dance drama was written, choreographed and directed by Sandip Soparrkar and his team of Ankita Dolawat and Ashutosh Arya.
Sandip Soparrkar said, “I felt humbled and truly honoured to receive a standing ovation at the premier show of Hyacinth. There were veterans from the field of theater, dance n film in at audience all crying, smiling and applauding. I am completely overwhelmed."
The Humsafar Trust (HST) is India’s oldest registered organization that works on the rights and health of the LGBT (Lesbian, Gay Bisexual and Transgender) Community. The event has been supported many bollywood fraternity Like actors Mugdha Ghodse, Sharbani Mukherjee, Dolly Thakur, Sandhaya Shetty, Designer Rohit Verma, Sumit Khetan, dancers Uma Rele and Uma Dogra, director Aruna Raje and others.
“Hyacinth highlights the emotional journey of same-sex couples. All the talk on Section 377 dehumanises us, and only speaks of us as sexual objects. But we are actually fighting for the need of companionship, to be able to find love without the criminal tag,” says Pallav Patankar, director, HIV programs, Humsafar Trust.
