Taapsee Pannu has not been in the thick of action for a while in Telugu film industry but the actress has no concerns about it, for her strong content takes precedence over other factors. “There is a reason why I didn’t sign anything after ‘Sahasam’ and when I announce my next in Telugu in a month’s time, the audience will understand why,” she exults.

“I can’t go on a signing spree just to exist in the industry. I have stopped doing that a couple of years back. There are already enough actresses who are doing the regular heroine roles and they are doing fairly well at it. I’m not happy doing roles where I don’t have much to do.”

Well, that’s a bold decision to take? “Yes. It was,” she exclaims. “I’m extremely happy that I took it. The last two years have been rewarding to me as my Tamil and Hindi projects worked for me. I believe in going slow and steady than to be in the race for No 1. I have not entered the industry to be the Numero Uno heroine; rather I wanted to enjoy my work.

Just for the sake of becoming the No 1 heroine I can’t do stupid roles or movies which I don’t believe in. I work for my happiness not anyone else’s,” she adds. Nonetheless, the bubbly actress misses the City of Pearls. “Though I relocated to Mumbai, I miss living in Hyderabad a lot. It was a very peaceful life I had living in Hyderabad,” she chortles.

Admittedly, the actress is extremely happy about her Bollywood career. She was seen in hits like ‘Chashme Baddoor’ and ‘Baby’. “I love the fact that Bollywood audience don’t care if you play a 20-minute role or seen throughout a film. They notice your talent and effort in a 20-minute role too.

The kind of appreciation that I got for ‘Baby’ was unbelievable, especially bearing in the mind the fact that I was an outsider and had no Godfathers as such in the industry. “Just purely on the basis of what I’m capable of doing as an actor I’ve been approached by well-known filmmakers for women-centric films,” shares Taapsee who has green-lit two more Hindi projects, the shooting of which commences next year.
