Johannesburg: Nicole Kidman has been crowned with the best actress prize at the London's Evening Standard Theater Award for playing Rosalind Franklin in 'Photograph 51'.

The 48-year-old actress, who played the character of one of the team who discovered the double-helix structure of DNA, said that her performance as a scientist was a tribute to her late father, reports news.24.com.

The 'Grace of Monaco' star added that she had taken the role for her father as he has been orbiting around this whole thing and also for Rosalind, who was not recognised in her lifetime.

James McAvoy was named best actor for 'The Ruling Class' and Imelda Staunton won the prize for best performance in a musical for her powerhouse turn in 'Gypsy.'
