Whether one likes it or not, Nara Chandrababu Naidu laid foundation for the information technology sector in Hyderabad way back in late 1990s. He was also instrumental in the setting up of Hyderabad International Convention Centre (HICC) and adjoining Hyderabad International Trade Expositions Ltd, popular as Hitex as he sensed largescale opportunities in meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions (MICE) sector.

Incidentally, this MICE infrastructure played key role in Hyderabad getting global conclaves including the prestigious eleventh meeting of the Conference of Parties (COP 11) Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) in 2012. It was a United Nations conclave in which over 10,000 delegates from 194 countries took part.

Again, the same infrastructure played key role in Hyderabad getting Global Entrepreneurship Summit (GES) which is currently underway in the city. Over 1,500 delegates are attending the summit in which Ivanka Trump was a star attraction. But Chandrababu Naidu couldn’t attend the event as Hyderabad came to Telangana in 2014 bifurcation while he became Chief Minister for the residual Andhra Pradesh.

Though reports indicated that the Telangana government has extended an invitation, it’s not known whether the invite is for inaugural session. Anyway, Naidu missed the summit and the spotlight.
