A two-year-old girl, Vaishnavi, who was kidnapped on January 11, was rescued from Dammaiguda in Kushaiguda area on Friday. The Central Zone Police arrested the kidnapper and handed over the girl to her parents.
The police formed four special teams and conducted a combing operation under the guidance of Amarkanth Reddy, ACP, Chikkadpally Division. They successfully nabbed the kidnapper, Racharla Lavanya alias Pooja, 36, and rescued the girl.
On January 12, Vaishnavi’s father K Parashuramulu, a vegetable vendor, lodged a complaint that his daughter went missing from the Bagh Lingampally Market. A case was registered under Section 363 (kidnapping) of the IPC. The cops conducted a search at all bus stations, railway stations, lodges and crowded places for clues on the missing girl. Acting on a tipoff, the accused, Lavanya, was caught at Dammaiguda on Friday. Lavanya was remanded to judicial custody.
"Lavanya was a resident of Bagh Lingampally. Five months ago, she shifted to Dammaiguda. Her husband committed suicide due to financial problems. She then eked out a living by running a beauty saloon, to support her two children.
Earlier, Lavanya wanted to adopt a child and went several times to Gandhi Hospital and other places,” said VB Kamalasan Reddy, DCP (Central).
During the interrogation, Lavanya revealed that on January 11, at around 9pm, she came to Baghlingampally to collect rent. When she was walking through the vegetable market, she noticed Vaishnavi playing and managed to whisk her away in an auto to Kushaiguda.
Kamalasan Reddy congratulated Veeraswamy, sub-inspector, P Sreedhar, inspector, Chikkadpally Police Station and T Amarkanth Reddy, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Chikkadpally, for their efforts in rescuing the two-year-old.
