On a peaceful day it came as a shock when the Customs officials at the Gannavaram airport found four passengers, who arrived here by a Bengaluru flight on Thursday, possessing four suitcases full of gold and diamond jewellery. They took them into custody.
Vijayawada: On a peaceful day it came as a shock when the Customs officials at the Gannavaram airport found four passengers, who arrived here by a Bengaluru flight on Thursday, possessing four suitcases full of gold and diamond jewellery. They took them into custody.
It is said that the jewels found with two men and two women was worth Rs 7 crore. The Customs officials were told that they were Marwaris, trading in jewellery.
The passengers claimed that they organize gold jewellery exhibitions in metropolitan cities.
They had come to Vijayawada to hold an exhibition scheduled on February 28, according to sources.
The Customs officials forwarded the jewellery bills submitted by the passengers to higher authorities. They said the four would be released if the bills were genuine and accurate, after investigation.
