Atmakuru (Kurnool): Following a tip-off that arrack is being manufactured at different places in Nallamalla forest area in Atmakur mandal of Kurnool district, a team of 50 police personnel led by DSP Narasimha Reddy conducted raids and took into custody 30 persons illegally manufacturing arrack.
Seeing the police party, the accused tried to hurl stones at them. Braving the attack, the police raided at 10 arrack dens set up beside the Gogulagudem waterfall. The police destroyed 1,000 drums of arrack and 1.5 lakh litres of jaggery wash. Total value of the material destroyed is estimated to be Rs 10 lakh. The raid took place near Jadalaiah forest base camp. The police wondered why the forest officials failed to take any action when the illicit arrack is being made under the limits of D A Puram forest section.
