Hyderabad: Red sandalwood logs worth Rs 50L went missing from the forest department godown, which is in the jurisdiction of Srikalahasthi Forest Department in Chittoor district. A compliant has been made to this effect on Saturday at Second Town Police station of Chittoor. The police registered a case and have been investigating the matter. They suspect a connection of forest department officials in this theft. The value of the stolen logs is Rs 50L, approximately, added the forest department officials.

The local MLA and the ministered concerned for forest departments in Andhra Pradesh Bojjala Gopala Krishna Reddy fumed over the forest department officials. He anguished over missing of the logs from his own constituency. He ordered the officials to trace out the missing logs by hook or crook.

It is evident that lot of smuggling activities of Red Sandalwood have been taking place in Chittoor and Kadapa districts. Most recently, Red sanders logs worth 20L have been seized when few smugglers were allegedly smuggling red sanders in a mini lorry at Nandaluru Check Post in Kadapa district. The police suspected that the red sandalwood logs might have been stolen from the Forest department’s storage.

Chittoor and Kadapa districts in Andhra Pradesh have turned the care of address for the sanders smuggling. Despite the fact the police and the forest department officials are vigilant, such untoward things have been happening over a period of time.

It is learnt that the smugglers are reportedly supported by the top rank politicians who in turn pressurize the officials also. In the last two months only, many such cases have been revealed.
