Hyderabad: Gold bars weighing three kg and a gold chain, all worth Rs 84 lakh, were seized by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) officials from the flush tank in a toilet at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) at Shamshabad here. One person was taken into custody.

Based on specific intelligence, the DRI sleuths intercepted a passenger who arrived from Dubai on Wednesday and found that he had concealed three gold bars and a gold chain in the flush tank of the toilet near the Immigration counter, DRI Additional Director S A Usmani said on Thursday.

The contraband was deftly concealed in nylon pouches. The smuggler intended to retrieve it later, the official said. The passenger, whose name not disclosed, was produced before the Economic Offences Court, which remanded him in 14-day judicial custody.
