Hyderabad: Four persons were electrocuted and two injured when high-tension wire snapped and fell on people standing at a bus stop near Haj House under Abids police station limits on Monday evening. The deceased were identified as Kaushik, Upendra, Rupesh and Sushil. All of them belong to Madhya Pradesh and are employed with Gemini Circus.

According to the police, the incident occurred around 7 pm as the commuters and pedestrians rushed to the bus stop for shelter from rain when the high tension wire fell on the ground.

Kaushik, Upendra and Rupesh were immediately rushed to Medwin Hospital while Sushil was taken to Osmania General Hospital where they were declared brought dead, DCP VB Kamalasan Reddy said. The injured have been identified as Nazim and Manish, who sustained critical burn injuries and are undergoing treatment at Medwin and Osmania Hospitals respectively. Police registered a case under Section 304-A (Causing death due to negligence) of the IPC.

Deputy Chief Minister Mahmood Ali, Mayor Md Majid Hussain, Charminar MLA Ahmed Pasha Qadri and MLC Saleem visited the hospitals and met the relatives and family members of the victims. The latter three had to face the ire of the people at the hospitals. The Deputy CM expressed regret over the incident and said that an inquiry had been ordered into the incident and officials had been directed to ensure that such incidents did not recur.

Congress leader Mohd Ali Shabbir, who visited Medwin Hospital, demanded that the government pay adequate compensation to the families of victims and take stern action against those responsible for the incident.
