Nalgonda: The Nalgonda district police on Saturday nabbed a seven-member inter-State Tamil Nadu gang, which has been committing offences during the last 20 years with TN as their centre of operation, jumping on to moving vehicles from their Tata Ace and robbing loads from them in filmy-style. Superintendent of Police T Prabhakar Rao told the media here that Muthu Synthil, Ramanandha Vaikati Swamy, Vellayan Pumi Selvam, Kannadi Prabhu, Kannan Thingaraj, Kanagaraj, Ganapathi Thevar Alex (the gang leader) have been targeting trucks/lorries moving on the Hyderabad-Vijayawada NH in the district during the last five months.

They committed six offences using a Tata Ace. Their modus operandi was to move on the highway and jump on to vehicles when they slowed down.

They would use sickles to cut the tarpaulin covers and snatch soaps, colour boxes, oil and surf packets, among others. They would transfer the products into their vehicle, taking care not to get noticed by drivers and cleaners of trucks/lorries, who would not realise the loss till they reached the destinations.

The SP said some more gang members were absconding. They would be nabbed after completing the investigation.

Another inter-State, identified as ‘Raman Gang’, involved in committing similar offences, was also caught in Suryapet on Saturday. It specialised in two robberies of tyres from Lorries on the NH in July, utilising a stolen Maruti Omni van. The gang members were Rajendran Maya, Raman Raju, Ajeet, Challa Pandi and Prabhu.

Rao stated that Rs.9.92 lakh, a Tata Ace, a Maruti van and some tyres were seized from the gangs. Their activities were spread across the country.

Information on more offences committed in other highways elsewhere is likely to emerge once other gang members were apprehended.
