Girija dies in borewell, The four-year-old girl who accidentally fell into a borewell in Ranga Reddy district near here around 11 am on Sunday died as efforts to reach her in time failed.
Hyderabad: The four-year-old girl who accidentally fell into a borewell in Ranga Reddy district near here around 11 am on Sunday died as efforts to reach her in time failed. Confirming this, Telangana Transport Minister P Mahender Reddy said her body was yet to be retrieved.
For over 50 hours, rescue workers, including personnel from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and Singareni Collieries, battled against time to rescue her who fell into an abandoned borewell in Manchal village near Ibrahimpatnam.
The rescue team was struggling to take the body out as it is decomposed and needs to be handled with extra care.
“The girl’s body has been located inside the hole around 3 pm on Tuesday,” Ibrahimpatnam ACP Ramulu Naik said.
Officials had earlier said the girl was trapped at 45 foot depth. The borewell has a depth of 300 feet. A parallel trench was dug to reach her but a huge boulder hampered the efforts. The rescue workers kept pumping oxygen into the well all the time.
The girl's father Nagaiah and grandparents were inconsolable. Her mother had died two years ago. The borewell was dug around six months back and was left abandoned and uncovered, as it did not yield water. Bushes have grown around its mouth and it is difficult to make out if there is a borewell there, the police said.
