Hyderabad: With the arrest of three persons, the Task Force (E) team on Monday claimed to have busted a major fake currency racket operating in the city. Police seized counterfeit notes of Rs 1,000 and Rs 500 with a face value of Rs 3 lakhs, two train tickets and three cell phones from their possession. Acting on a tip-off, the sleuths apprehended D Srikanth, 32, B Mahesh, 23, and R Bhaskar Goud, 29, all residents of Lalapet on Monday near Lalapet flyover.

“On interrogation, it was revealed that Srikanth was convicted in a murder case and sent to Chanchalguda jail in the past where he came in contact with one Rikazul, a native of West Bengal, who was undergoing punishment for running business of fake currency notes with one Pintu of West Bengal who wanted to make easy money by smuggling the counterfeit currency from Malda, West Bengal to the city through Shareef and Krishna of Hyderabad,” Additional DCP, Task Force, N Koti Reddy said adding that the fake currency was suspected to be printed in Malda district of West Bengal and sent to Hyderabad.

The DCP further added that efforts were being made to nab Krishna and Pintu who were still at large and to identify the source of printing and circulation of fake Indian currency.
