Vijayawada: The city police on Sunday arrested a gang of five men and a woman, who allegedly posed as police personnel and duped Rs 2 lakh worth of gold ornaments from a realtor Madhu. The 26-year-old realtor hailed from Bhimavaram in West Godavari district.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Rahava Rao told the media on Monday that the gangsters had employed their accomplice M Padma to trap Madhu. They hatched a plan to see that the realtor came to Vijayawada and meet Padma. On being called by her on November 5, Madhu came to the city and met her at Jakkampudi area. The gangsters, posing as policemen, had accosted Madhu when he was talking to Padma and threatened to register a case against him for having illicit relation with the woman, the ACP said. They let him go after he parted with the gold ornaments. Later, realising that he was trapped by the gangsters, he lodged a complaint with the Two Town police. During investigation, it came to light that the culprits had posed as policemen and duped Madhu of valuables, he said. Two Town Inspector of Police P Venkateswarlu and Shyam Sundar arrested the culprits. The arrested were Ch Ramu (28), a realtor, A Rajesh (26), A Subba Rao (26), V Srinivasa Rao (45), T Sai Durga Rao (25) and M Padma (25).
