Hyderabad: A gang of thieves of 10, apparently a wee different from their counterparts, was busted by Cyberabad police on Monday, and in a first major catch of its kind, the sleuths arrested seven of the gang.

The gang committed thefts of an incredible number of 81lorries, hitherto unheard of, and sold them to a steel factory at Shadnagar as scrap.

According to police, the prime offender Mohammed Ayub, 55 years and resident of Kishan Bhag, is the kingpin of the gang. He formed a gang with nine other persons.

Earlier, this gang used to commit thefts of cattle in Cyberabad, Hyderabad and surrounding areas and was arrested many a times by police and sent to jails in Mahabubnagar district and Hyderabad. In 2012, Ayub changed his modus operandi and started committing theft of lorries, along with his gang members. The arrested gang members are Mohd Annu Khan, 28, a tractor driver, Ayub Ali Khan, 26, a lorry driver, Mohd Meraj Khan, 24, a car driver, Shaik Fayaz, 20, a car driver, Mohd Rafeeq, 35, a welding worker and Syed Abdul Azeez, 26, an auto driver along with Ayub. The other two, Syed Afsar, 30, a driver, Mohd Baba Khan, 28, a driver and Mohd Pasha, 32, a gas welder are absconding.

The gang committed thefts of 81lorries from various places in Hyderabad, Medak and Mahabubnagar. The modus operandi of the gang was to start at midnight from Chandrayangutta in an Innova car to the outskirts of the city, looking for parked lorries without drivers. They then dismantled the lorry into small pieces with the help of gas cutters.


Later they would shift the scrap material to Devasree Ispath Pvt Ltd Yellikanta, Shad Nagar, Mahabubnagar district run by one Prakash Goayanka and get an amount between Rs 2 to 3 lakh per load.

The lead material was sold to a factory that manufactured energy devices at Industrial Estate at Bahadurpura run by one Vijay Rati.

The batteries were sold to one Anwar, resident of Kishanbhagh. Tyres were sold to one Hussain at Chandrayanagutta. Police recovered Rs 71,35,000 cash and material including tyres, batteries, self motors and self dynamos, all worth more than Rs 1 crore rupees seizing other vehicles and equipment used in the crime.

Police arrested the receivers Prakash Goyanka, M D, Devasree Ispath Pvt Ltd, Yellikanta, Shad Nagar, Anwar (battery receiver) and Hussain (tyres receiver). Another accused Vijay Rati is at large.
