Adilabad: The police here on Tuesday arrested two chain-snatchers and recovered from them gold ornaments weighing 89 grams worth Rs 2.52 lakh.

The ID police under the supervision of town inspector L Raghu conducted inspection of vehicles at Tirpelli. However, two persons going on a red Pulsar motorcycle tried to escape on seeing the police.

The police chased them and nabbed them at CCI Cross Roads. The police caught Dileep Sarma (24), a native of Bhind district, Madhya Pradesh, and Nithin Parihar Tagore (25), a native of Jagatpur village of Jalaun district in Uttar Pradesh. They were involved in chain-snatching cases at different places in the district.

They told the police that they committed the crimes in a bid to earn quick money. While going on the motorcycle, they committed four chain snatchings at Adilabad, Nirmal and Mancherial towns in the district. They told the police that they were on their way to Maharashtra to sell the gold ornaments which they had stolen.

DSP L Lakshminarayana produced the accused before the media. Town CI L Raghu, rural CI P Srinivas, SIs Krishna Murthy, Santhosh Singh, Nazeer and Kareem were present.
