Hyderabad: Police nabbed four persons involved in the theft of a .22 revolver and other ornaments from the house of a former MLC under Dabeerpura police station limits on Tuesday. According to police, the accused Melu Surender alias Chinna, 23, a resident of Chatrinaka, Taqi Ali alias Chotu, 24, a resident of Yakuthpura, Md Chand, 23, an auto driver and resident of Panjagutta, Syed Zohair Mehdi, 20, a videographer and resident of Mirchowk were arrested. Two others including the gang kingpin Baqer and Irfan are at large.

The accused gained entry into the house of former MLC Abu Hafeez Yousuf on December 31 and committed the theft. The police also recovered five empty cartridges and one live cartridge, along with an American made revolver whose licence lapsed eight years ago. Believed to be an antique piece, the accused also tried to sell it in a pawn shop.

“We shall be sending the revolver to forensic lab for confirming if the rounds were fired by the accused. The police will also initiate action against Dr Abu Taher, son of Abu Hafeez Yousuf and owner of the gun for his failure to renew the licence with Panjagutta police station,” said V Sathyanarayana, DCP South Zone.
