Hyderabad: An 18-year-old pregnant woman was allegedly strangled to death by her husband and his relatives for additional dowry. According to Maheshwaram police, the deceased, Katravat Kavitha of Madanpally, had love marriage with one K Rahul of Akanpally about seven months ago. However, a few months into the marriage, Rahul and his relatives started harassing her demanding Rs 5 lakh and five tolas gold as dowry.
Bowing to the pressure, her parents gave Rs 2 lakh cash and some household articles. However, their harassment continued and on Friday night, they allegedly strangulated Kavitha to death. Based on complaint lodged by Kavitha’s brother-in-law, Vikram, Maheshwaram police registered a case of murder and dowry harassment under Sections 302 and 304B against Rahul and his relatives.
