Hyderabad: Special Operations Team (SOT), Cyberabad on Wednesday claimed to have busted a gang operating cricket-betting with the arrest of eight persons. Police seized Rs 14.42 lakh, two cars, 16 phones, swords besides a laptop from their possession. Police identified the gang members as Shaik Mohammed Ghouse, who is absconding, his two sons - Shaik Mohammed Ali, 25 and Shaik Shoukath Ali, 22, and collection agents Juvvaganti Srinivas, 29, of Kushaiguda, Md Waheed, 39 and Sk Saleem, 39, of Moula Ali and three punters Moku Jagan Mohan Reddy, 46, of Keesara, Voruganti Veeresh, 33, of Kushaiguda and Pandilla Deepak, 32, of Kapra. They were operating the racket from a flat in Moula Ali since the beginning of ICC World Cup -2015.

Acting on a tip-off, the team conducted the raid on Wednesday and arrested Mohammed Ali and Shoukath Ali from a flat in Moula Ali and recovered Rs 12.82 lakh, and consequent to their confession, cops arrested agents and punters, and recovered about Rs 1.6 lakh from their possession. “They have been organising cricket betting by using laptop, tab and mobile phones and collecting amount from punters belonging to Cyberabad, Hyderabad and other districts of Telangana, AP,” Additional DCP (SOT), E Ramachandra Reddy said.
